CHANDIGARH: The meeting of the Empowered Committee Friday approved 32 new mega projects worth Rs.6853.95 crore which included 21 industrial, 4 Agro and 7 Housing & Township Projects with an employment potential for about 22000 persons.
Disclosing this here, a spokesman of Punjab Government said that Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh preesided over the meeting. Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhatthal
He siad that the projects approved included 2 manufacturing units to be set up in district Ludhiana and Mohali with an investment of Rs.476.64 crore and would generate employment for 4500 persons. He further informed that the committee had given approval to 8 multiplexes in the districts of Amritsar, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Mohali entailing an investment of Rs. 1192 crore thereby generating employment potential for 7800 persons. As many as 5 Hotel Projects in district Amritsar, Ferozepur, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Mohali with an investment of Rs. 275.53 crore and generating employment for 2050 persons were also approved.
The spokesman further said that the Committee had also given its nod to set up four industrial Parks in district Ludhiana, Nawanshehar and Mohali with an investment of Rs.10889 crore thereby generating employment potential for 7300 persons.
Giving the details, the spokesman said that the Committee also approved to grant special package of concessions to Industrial parks projects namely Industrial Park Project of M/S Nahar Industrial Enterprises Ltd., IT Park of M/S A'-.TECH Buildcon Pvt. Ltd. Chandigarh and IT Park of M/S A'-.TECH Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Besides, the Empowered Committee also approved the mega project of M/S Godrej Agrovet Ltd with an employment potential of 5000 direct jobs and equal number of indirect jobs in semi urban/ rural area. The project would associate with 10,000 farmers for contract farming of maize ( approx.20,000 hectares) to meet their annual requirement of poultry feed unit of 75,000 MT per annum capacity.
It would also associate with 800 poultry farms each having capacity of 5000 birds for sourcing required number of broilers for its processing plant. Under the Godrej Aadhaar Retail Initiative, the Company had planned to open 150 stores by March 2009 with an investment of Rs. 77.50 crore and nine such outlets were already functional in Punjab. Godrej Aadhaars would be located in semi urban/ rural locations and have catchments of 50 -60 villages and their reach would be almost 8000 villages in the next three years. The Committee also decided to grant special incentives under industry policy-2003 to M/S United Breweries Limited for setting up of a Malting Unit of 30000 TPA capacity at an estimated cost of Rs. 45 crore likely to be located either at Laddowal in district Ludhiana or Nabha in district Patiala.
He said that the Empowered Committee had so far approved 235 mega projects in its various meetings with a total investment of Rs.79906.33 crore.
