PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, one of the largest and most integrated agri-food companies in the country, have announce that they will build a new animal feed factory in Central Sulawesi if the government provide 100,000 ha of land for the growing of maize.
Corn is the main feedstock in the manufacture of animal feed, and currently supplies for Central Sulawesi are coming from East Java and South Kalimantan.
Head of Region I PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia, Yahya Djanggola revealed that a feed mill would require 500 thousand tonnes of corn for proper production. To produce this amount, 100,000 ha of land would need to be allocated to the growing of maize.
Yahya Djanggola said "PT Japfa Comfeed Indonesia already has a feed mill in South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, East Java, West Java and West Sumatra. In fact we have six factories in South Sulawesi, so we need a new plant."
Yahya said that Central Sulawesi was a strategic location because it is within easy reach of a number of areas such as South Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, etc.
He said with the construction of a new feed mill feed mill they will be able to meet the animal feed demands of the region, along with neighbouring regions.
