The government’s pushing ahead with plans to reduce prices of commodities with the topics of pork and the prices of flour used for shrimp feed high on talks planned for Wednesday.
Yanyong Phuangrach, director-general of the Internal Trade Department, said the meeting, to be chaired by Commerce Minister Mingkwan Sangsuwan, will likely touch upon the ban on exporting pigs or pork to neighbouring countries especially from the 26 Thai provinces along the border.
This temporary regulation was imposed to ensure that there is no shortage of pork in Thailand following reports that pork can be sold for a higher price in neighbouring countries.
Representatives of shrimp exporters are also due to propose that the government reduce tax on wheat flour to 0% percent from 5-7%. Wheat flour is a main ingredient used in shrimp feed.
