According to Ji Zhihua, vice chairman of the China Feed Industry Association, higher consumption by hogs is likely to drive China's feed demand at least 10 percent higher.

She expects the hog supply to return to normal levels by the second half of next year and when coupled with the high level of poultry stocks in China, the total feed demand will be higher.

Much of that increased feed demand will come from foreign markets. Serious drought is lowering production in China's major corn and soybean growing areas, so the rising feed demand will have to be met by imports.
