The Korean Government's Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will implement a USD$5 million project to reduce rural poverty and restore the watershed ecosystem in Quirino Province. Part of the project includes a feed mill to be built in the corn growing region.
Resident Representative SONG Minhyeon of KOICA and Governor Junie Cua of Quirino Province signed the project agreement on August 8, 2013 at the KOICA Office in Makati City.
In his message, Resident Representative SONG highlighted that the project is a symbol of Korea's strong commitment in helping the Philippines achieve its development objectives. He added that the project would increase the income of farmers and improve the productivity of crops and livestock in Quirino Province.
The Integrated Agricultural Development Project in Quirino involves the construction of farm-to-market roads, establishment of a feed mill and mushroom production facilities, demonstration of improved farming technologies for agroforestry, and extension of microfinance to farmers.
KOICA will also dispatch Korean technical experts, train local officials and personnel in Korea, and conduct a capacity building program for farmer-beneficiaries. The project will be implemented for three (3) years.
