Cargill, has opened its latest feed mill in Vietnam on Thursday. The feed mill located in Dong Van II Industrial Park in Ha Nam Province is the companys ninth in the country.
The total area of the site covers approximately four hectares of land and cost in total $18 million USD. The company anticipates to have the plant operational for the third quarter of 2012. The feed mill is expected to have a production capacity of 200,000 tons per annum.
Last year Cargill made the purchase of a shrimp feed mill from Japanese-invested Higashimaru Vietnam in Tien Giang Province, located in the Mekong Delta Region.
Cargill's Global CEO, Greg Page, restated the company's long-term vision for investment in Vietnam at the opening ceremony of the feed mill.
The feed industry relies heavily on meat consumption of a country, making Vietnam is a potentially very lucrative market with the country having a high increasing meat consumption ratio per capita, Page explained.
Cargill plans to acquire a number of feed mills in Vietnam, and is actively looking for feed mills that meet standards for hygiene, labor safety and environment.
