Australia - With an abundance of available feed on hand, local SA buyers saw good value in a 2700-head store cattle yarding offered on Friday at Mt Gambier, SA.
Paying rates estimated the $2/kg mark and higher for steers, local operators bid Angus grown steers to a top of $800 a head.
A good number of Hereford, Shorthorn and Murray Grey steers and steer weaners that provided weights above 280kg, also fetched solid prices of between $570 and $785.
Cattle were mostly supplied from the lower southeast SA region and the south west of Victoria, however some were also forwarded from a number of drought pinched areas including Kangaroo Island, Alice Springs and the Riverina of NSW in the hope of finding a satisfactory outlet.
