Turkey waste powers mill in Howard City

A West Michigan business is now running on turkey waste. It is the area's first commercial biomass alternative energy system and it went online today.

It is located at the Sietsema Farm Feeds site in Howard City, inside a new 15,000 square foot building. The system will convert turkey litter into electricity and steam. Much of the generated steam power will go back to the feed mill for feed processing operations, drastically reducing energy expenses. If the system works as planned, the mill will be taken off of public utilities.

The biomass energy installation is the first of its kind in the world.
