Acre feed mill nears completion with the delivery of boiler

The feed mill forming part of the aquaculture complex in Acre is nearing completion with the delivery of the feed mill boiler.

After nearly 2 months waiting for the waters of the Madeira River to recede, the boiler from Brazilian manufacturers SECAMAQ, was delivered to the site in Rio Branco.

The boiler weighing 18 tonnes, costing $1.2 million, is the last piece of feed plant equipment to be installed. The boiler is essential in the process of extrusion of fish feed, necessary to produce enough vapor form and characteristics.

The feed mill which is expected to open in late May, will be the most modern in the country, with 70% of the feed machinery for the plant sourced from Denmark at a cost of $4-5 million. The total investment to build and equip the feed mill and fish hatchery complex will be approximately $18 million.

According to the manager, the Acre feed factory is the first in the country with specific features for working with fish like catfish, arapaima and other species of fish round. Feed production at the plant should reach 40,000 tonnes per year, which equates to 10 tonnes per hour.

"Fully automated and modern, the fish feed factory is the only of it's kind in the country with the capacity to produce feeds for specific fish, nutrient and generating a more competitive product," he said.

The feed produced at the plant will be largely responsible for the success of the company, it will produce quality fish feed, ready to compete with world markets. "In Brazil there is no ration of quality that we're producing here in Acre. Our feed will be fully balanced European quality and high performance, so we add value to our product, "he said.

The feed mill at the aquaculture complex in Acre will focus on both producing high quality feeds with high productivity. Every day it will produce about 200 tonnes of feed, enough to supply demand in Acre and neighbouring states. To ensure this productivity, the plant will use about 120 tonnes of grain per day, purchased locally from farmers in the state.
